Union of Concerned Scientists official says NRC allowing Palisades to limbo beneath safety bar

The Director of the Union of Concerned Scientists Nuclear Safety Project is speaking Thursday in Southwest Michigan. David Lochbaum will speak at the Bernhard Center at Western Michigan University at noon. He will be at the Beach Haven Event Center in South Haven Thursday night beginning at 7:00. The group Beyond Nuclear is one the event's sponsors. WMUK's Gordon Evans spoke with Lochbaum Thursday morning.

Debate over guns on college campuses

In the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, Dysart is advocating the right of students with concealed handgun permits to carry guns on campus for protection, a practice which is currently forbidden at George Mason.

As the debate over guns and gun-related violence continues around the country, many university presidents say guns should not be allowed on campus. Western Michigan University and other schools have long had strict rules on weapons that students and others must follow. But some students say the university’s policy conflicts with a state law allowing people with concealed weapon permits to bring their guns to campus.

Documentary revists a 1963 civil rights boycott

Like many cities, Kalamazoo has traveled a long road toward greater racial equality. But the Civil Rights Movement first hit home in 1963 when black residents boycotted a local drugstore that refused to hire African-American workers. Now, students in a class at Kalamazoo College debut a video documentary about the Van Avery Drugstore boycott on Tuesday, April 9th, at 7 p.m. in the Olmstead Room at Mandelle Hall.
