Western Michigan University trustees have called a special meeting for next week to consider a new three year contact with the union representing the university's part-time instructors. 

Western Michigan will play Eastern Michigan in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference men's basketball tournament Thursday night. WMUK's Gordon Evans spoke with Mlive Kalamazoo reporter Scott DeCamp. 

A bill on its way to the state House would rename part of I-94 in honor of a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer killed in 2011. M-Live Kalamazoo reports that the measure was unanimously approved by the state Senate Wednesday. It would name the 25-mile stretch of the freeway in Kalamazoo County as the “Eric Zapata Memorial Highway”.

A scholar well-known for his work on poverty, race and inequality will speak on Friday at Western Michigan University. William Julius Wilson teaches in the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He’s also the author of several books on the issues of urban poverty and race. 

What could be more epic than reading an epic poem in the way it would have been read more than two thousand years ago? How about reading it in English from beginning to end? The Western Michigan University World Languages department is doing a live marathon reading of Virgil’s The Aeneid on Friday.
