Poet Jaswinder Bolina will be reading at WMU's Bernhard Center on Thursday night at 8 p.m. as part of the Gwen Frostic Reading Series. He’ll read from his second book titled Phantom Camera.

The impending death of bookstores, and even printed books, has long been predicted. But MLive Kalamazoo reporter Yvonne Zipp says the funeral notices may have been sent too soon.

The city of Kalamazoo says Deputy Public Services Director Sue Foune will become the Department's director in May. 

Fire departments in Portage and Kalamazoo Township have won big federal grants. They were announced Thursday by Michigan’s two U.S. senators.

Democrats Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow say Portage will get nearly $634,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Kalamazoo Township will receive nearly $56,000.

The money can be used for training, equipment, and supplies.

A regional airline says it will “loan back” recent Western Michigan University graduates it hires to become flight instructors at the university. Western and American Eagle Airlines announced the deal Friday.

The airline says it will begin working with some students in Western’s College of Aviation when they are sophomores. They’ll become instructors at the school on graduation while being paid by American Eagle. That will give them time to add flight hours needed for an airline pilot’s license.
