Albion, Marshall look for state aid to merge high schools

Wheels are turning in Lansing as local lawmakers look for state funds to help school districts in Albion and Marshall merge their high schools. In an email Friday to the Enquirer, Marshall Public Schools Superintendent Randy Davis said he and his Albion counterpart had asked the state to fund five new positions to train staff and help students as Albion high schoolers are sent to Marshall this fall.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- One of the three finalists for superintendent for the Kalamazoo Regional Education Service Agency has withdrawn because he has been offered the superintendency in St. Johns Public Schools north of Lansing. The St. Johns board voted Thursday night to offer the job to Ypsilanti School District Superintendent Dedrick Martin, who was named a finalist for the KRESA position Tuesday.

West Michigan Avenue closed near WMU campus because of water main break

KALAMAZOO, MI -- West Michigan Avenue between and Monroe Street and Western Avenue is closed this morning to allow repair to a broken water main in the area. Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Lt. Jeff VanderWiere said city workers have been on the scene since early morning repairing the break to the main, which was reported between 4 a.m.
