Governor Rick Snyder will deliver his State of the State address Wednesday night and, among other things, he is expected to talk about campaign finance reform. Gongwer News Service reports the governor will likely advocate raising the limit on how much money can be given to candidates running for state office. Snyder is also expected to call for more frequent campaign finance reports from candidates.

Governor Rick Snyder is expected to propose a broader package of tax changes to boost revenues for Michigan's roads during his State of the State address on Wednesday, sources indicate, which could include shifting the state's fuel tax to one based on a percentage of fuel's wholesale price and a local registration tax option, as well as increasing registration fees.
A Japanese auto supplier might hire 400 new workers in Michigan. The Detroit Free Press reports that Denso could add manufacturing and engineering jobs at its Battle Creek and Southfield plants that make radiators and air conditioning units. The company will make the move if tax incentives are approved by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and by local governments. A spokesman from Denso International America says Michigan’s Right-to-Work law won’t affect the company’s choice.
Denso International America Inc. announced Tuesday plans to invest $750 million in the U.S., creating more than 1,200 jobs, including more than 400 in Michigan. The automotive supplier announced the four-year plan at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Kalamazoo Jazz musicians Ashley and Benje Daneman are not afraid to tell a true story. Ashley’s no-nonsense style songwriting combines well with Benje’s interpretive compositions, like in the song Floating On that Benje wrote about an experience he had walking the streets of New York City.
A Kalamazoo band called The Moody Coyotes will play on the evening of January 11 at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. Their music is a blend of bluegrass, folk, country and American roots.
