Kalamazoo's Own Abbey Lincoln

Vocalist Abbey Lincoln graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School before landing in New York City, where she began a career spanning six decades.

She recorded more than 20 albums that included many of her compositions. Lincoln was also a very accomplished actress, starring opposite Sidney Poitier and earning a Golden Globe nomination.  She was a leading voice in the Civil Rights movement and collaborated with drummer Max Roach, to whom she was married for 8 years.  Lincoln passed away in 2010 at the age of 80.
