The Kalamazoo Brass Collective - Dave Bernard, trumpet; Bob Lewis, horn; and Craig Freeman, trombone

Three members of the Kalamazoo Brass Collective - founders Bob Lewis and Craig Freeman, and trumpeter Dave Bernard - play inventive and original arrangements of seasonal music in the WMUK Takeda studio, and have a conversation about their lives as musicians with Cara Lieurance.

All three are graduates of the School of Musicat Western Michigan University, where Freeman and Lewis formed a trio as graduate students with trumpeter/arranger Ayako Nakamura.  When Nakamura moved away, Dave Bernard was a natural fit.

The members of the KBC pride themselves on being versatile. They can function as a concert trio, or as part of a greater whole, with diverse acts such as full concert choirs, rock bands, pit orchestras, and touring shows.  They also teach as private instructors and with organizations including Kalamazoo Kids In Tune.

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
As Chief Engineer for WMUK, Martin Klemm is kept busy by tending to a variety of issues - from computers to tower lights - he will never run out of things to fix. Before coming to WMUK in 2003, Martin worked in Los Angeles making records with some outstanding producers, but preferred to be close to his family here in west Michigan. He enjoys keeping a busy schedule balancing WMUK, loving on his friends' doggos, and remodeling his home in the Edison neighborhood (which never seems to end)
