Michigan’s Congressional campaigns are setting records for fundraising. KVCC inaugurates new president Marshall Washington this week. A new law makes marijuana infused alcohol illegal in Michigan.

(MPRN) It’s three weeks from Election Day, and Michigan’s US House races have already broken state records. The Michigan Campaign Finance Network released a new analysis of fundraising and spending disclosures. The candidates for US House have, so far, raised more in total than the candidates for any other two-year cycle – by millions of dollars. The 6th District Congressional race in Southwest Michigan is the third most expensive Congressional race in the state.

Kalamazoo Valley Community College will inaugurate its new president this week. The ceremony for Marshall Washingtonstarts Friday afternoon at 4:00 at the college’s Texas Township campus. Later it will move to KVCC's downtown Kalamazoo campus. More activities are planned Saturday, including free activities at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum and planetarium. Washington took over as KVCC's president in July. He replaced former president Marilyn Schlack, who retired.

(WKAR) A new state law in Michigan makes the sale of marijuana-infused alcoholic drinks illegal. This passage of the law comes before voters weigh in on Proposal 1 next month. That’s the ballot initiative that will decide whether or not to make recreational marijuana use legal in Michigan. A spokesperson for Yes on 1 said the no marijuana in drinks law is a way for legislators to subtly voice their opinions against the proposal. Representative Klint Kesto said he sponsored the no marijuana in alcoholic drinks bill to protect the public safety by prohibiting a product that has two mind altering substances in one. Voters will decide the fate of Proposal 1 on November 6.

(Michigan Radio) U.S. border officials say it’s still illegal to carry marijuana across one of Michigan’s border crossings with Ontario. That's despite Canada legalizing marijuana this week. Next month Michigan votes on legalizing recreational marijuana. The outcome of that vote will have no effect on the policy at the border. Marijuana remains illegal under federal law.

(WCMU) A Northern Michigan township has filed suit against the City of Cheboygan, saying the city is violating federal law by access to water. Attorneys for Inverness township say Cheboygan used a number of federal grants and loans to set up its water system - under the condition that Inverness be given access. A representative for the township says for the past two years the city has said it will not extend water services to properties in the Township unless they are annexed to the city. The City of Cheboygan did not respond to a request for comment.
