A plea deal is reached in an embezzlement case related to a non-profit foundation launched after the 2016 shooting spree in Kalamazoo. The Michigan Civil Rights Commission plans to continue investigating allegations of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The North American International Auto Show in Detroit will move from January to June for 2020.

(Kalamazoo Gazette) The Former Director of the Kalamazoo Strong Foundation has entered a plea in an embezzlement case. The Kalamazoo Gazette reports that Rachel Kaiser pleaded guilty Monday to an added count of using a computer to commit a crime. In exchange for that plea, one count of embezzlement was dropped. Kaiser was accused of stealing more than $4,000 from Kalamazoo Strong. The non-profit foundation was launched in 2016 after the shooting spree that left six people dead and two others seriously injured. Kaiser is scheduled to be sentenced October 15th.

(Michigan Radio) The Michigan Civil Rights Commission says it will continue to include LGBTQ as a group protected under anti-discrimination law. Attorney General Bill Schuette recently issued an opinion that state law does not protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people from discrimination. The opinion came in response to the civil rights commission’s decision in May to include LGBTQ individuals as a protected class under Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. The commission says it will continue investigating complaints of housing and employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

(WDET) The North American International Auto Show is moving its 2020 date from January to June. The Detroit Auto Dealers Association says the summer season will allow patrons to better experience the city. The 2020 auto show will take place a week after the Detroit Grand Prix. More than 800,000 people attended the North American International Auto Show this year.
