Kalamazoo County launches a new “data hub” on health and well-being. Kellogg’s is returning to Honey Smacks to shelves in November. A WMU linebacker is the MAC West Division defensive player of the week. 

Kalamazoo County’s Health and Community Services Department has launched a new online resource with data and statistics about health in Kalamazoo County.A news release describes the data hubas a collection of indicators that paint a picture of health and well-being in Kalamazoo County. There is also a form available to make a request for specific data. The county health department says the data hub will share important health information with the community and be a resource for outside agencies to find reliable data for their work.

(Michigan Radio) Progress Michigan plans to appeal a judge’s decision dismissing a lawsuit. The suit claimed Republican candidate for Michigan governor Bill Schuette used his office for political gain. A Progress Michigan spokesman calls the decision “a setback for accountability and transparency.” Republican Attorney General Bill Schuette faces Democrat Gretchen Whitmer in next month’s gubernatorial election. The Libertarian, Green, U.S. Taxpayers and Natural Law Parties also have candidates for governor on the ballot.

Kellogg’s says Honey Smacks is returning to store shelves in the U.S. next month. The Battle Creek cereal giant issued a recall of Honey Smacks in June due to a salmonella scare. The Centers for Disease Control and Preventionfound that 135 people in 36 states were infected, and 34 of them were hospitalized. A third party production facility was linked to the salmonella outbreak. A news release from Kellogg’s says the cereal will be available in limited quantities with a simpler updated recipe. The company says production of Honey Smacks was moved to “a trusted and tested Kellogg owned facility.” 

(Interlochen Public Radio) Oscoda Township is getting a million dollars to hook residents up to clean water. Township residents have had to rely on bottled water due to high levels of the hazardous chemicals known as PFAS. A USDA grant will be used to connect over 200 households to the township’s municipal water system. The township superintendent says work on connecting the homes will run through next year.

Western Michigan University linebacker Alex Grace has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division defensive player of the week. The junior had 11 tackles and his first career interception in the Broncos’ 35-10 win at Central Michigan on Saturday. Western is 6-2 on the season and 4-0 in the MAC. The Broncos will host Toledo Thursday night at Waldo Stadium.
