In the fall of 2009, Kalamazoo writer Margaret von Steinen started a Combat Veterans Writing Group that meets twice a month at the Portage District Library. The group will read from their work at the library Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in honor of Veteran’s Day.

For 20 years, Chad Pastotnik has printed handmade books in Mancelona, Michigan. Pastotnik’s exhibit 20 Years of Deep Wood Press will be at the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center through the end of this month. He uses a lot of natural fibers in his work, but one common ingredient is missing.

"Ruined" sheds light on sexual violence during civil war in the Congo

Western Michigan University theater students will perform the Pulitzer prize winning drama, Ruined Thursday night.

“The play takes place in the eastern portion of the Democratic Republic of Congo," says Director Awoye Timpo. "And it’s all about the lives of the men and women who have been affected by the war that’s been going on there.”
