Jackie Kennedy Onassis is one of the most iconic first ladies in history. She was born into a wealthy family and continued to live a life a luxury even after John F. Kennedy’s death. But the lives of her aunt and first cousin turned out very differently.
Kalamazoo Jazz musicians Ashley and Benje Daneman are not afraid to tell a true story. Ashley’s no-nonsense style songwriting combines well with Benje’s interpretive compositions, like in the song Floating On that Benje wrote about an experience he had walking the streets of New York City.
One of the first things you’ll see as you enter the exhibit is a fallen soldier’s battle cross. It includes a helmet and boots, but no rifle. Exhibit curator and Art Center of Battle Creek executive director Linda Holderbaum says she wanted the display to be about art and personal memories of World War II, not about the violence and weapons of war.
