Legislature moves toward final budget plan

Spending plans were approved on mostly party-line votes on Tuesday. Senate is expected to do same Wednesday
In quick fashion Tuesday morning, the state Legislature began wrapping up the 2013-14 budget Tuesday, moving the $50.9 billion budget the full House and Senate for final action. The budget includes many areas of compromise and disagreements and Democrats on conference committees considering the budgets either passed or voted against many of the fiscal plans.

A community meeting for the "Cleanup Not Coverup" campaign is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in the gym of St. Joseph's Church, 930 Lake Street, according to a press release from Michigan United.

Ex-MI Supreme Court justice heads to prison

Former Michigan Supreme Court justice Diane Hathaway is heading to a federal prison. The Gongwer News Service reports that a federal judge sentenced Hathaway to a year and a day behind bars Tuesday. She had earlier been found guilty of hiding a million dollars in assets so she could sell of a home in Grosse Pointe Park at a favorable price.
