The Wayne State University Board of Governors didn't blink Wednesday in the face of threats from the Legislature to slash the school's state funding, as it passed an eight-year labor contract with its faculty on a straight party-line vote.
LANSING - Wayne State University President Allan Gilmour came out swinging this morning in Lansing, asking Republican lawmakers whether an eight-year labor contract for faculty or continued cuts in state funding were worse for students. Gilmour contended it is the latter, a point he tried to stress to members of the state House higher education subcommittee.
Detroit - Wayne State University's faculty union could reach a contract that would block a right-to-work option as soon as this week, union officials said Monday. "Progress is being made and we can see the end of the negotiations," said Charles Parrish, president of the American Association of University Professors-American Federation of Teachers' WSU chapter.
