Student run media sources have an uncertain future at Western Michigan University, due to a loss of advertising revenue and university funding. Student radio station WIDR-89.1FM and student newspaper The Western Herald have launched the 'Save the Student Media Campaign' to acquire funding needed to keep the two operations alive. The groups are proposing a $5 student-assessment fee every semester, which would help keep the student media afloat.
KALAMAZOO, MI - The media industry's well-documented struggles in recent years have spread to the Western Michigan University campus. If a new source of funding isn't found, both the Western Herald and WIDR-FM (89.1) could disappear from campus, said student heads of both organizations.
