Gereld "Jerry" Malec

Started broadcasting career in 1987 as an Announcer at WJML in Petoskey.  Enlisted in the Army in 1989 as a Broadcast Journalist.  The job evolved into the title of Public Affairs Chief as I made up through the ranks.  During my 21 years in the military, I worked a variety of assignments ranging from being a morning D.J., Radio and TV News Anchor/Reporter, Public Affairs Officer, Media Relations Director, culminating with my final assignment as a Station Commander for one of five American Forces Radio and Television Stations in Germany.  I've lived in Italy for 3 years, Germany for another 3, and 4 for S. Korea, mixed in with deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, and Somalia.

I retired in 2010, moved to Kalamazoo/Portage, and finished my BA at Western.  I'm married and have two children, and we reside in Portage.
