Civic's Mary Poppins Features Flying, Singing, And A New Villain

Courtesy of Kalamazoo Civic

Mary Poppins, P.L. Travers' beloved book character, transitioned from film to stage in 2004, when writer Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) and musical team Robert and Richard Sherman debuted their adaptation in London's West End.  Mary Poppins is the Kalamazoo Civic's holiday offering this year, opening on November 20th.

Director Todd Espeland, actor Carol Zombro and marketing director Janet Gover discuss the new elements in the stage version of Mary Poppins, which still features favorite musical numbers like "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," "Feed The Birds," and "Spoonful of Sugar."

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
