Kalamazoo County board leaves mask mandate in place

The Kalamazoo County board took two hours of public comment Tuesday night on whether or not to rescind the Health Department’s Mask Mandate, and heard from both sides. Callers asking to overturn the mandate made baseless claims including saying there is no COVID-19 pandemic. However, commissioners also heard from supporters of the mandate who said it will keep kids in school.

Board Chair Tracy Hall said the resolution that called for rescinding the mandate was full of falsehoods. The board majority has consistently supported the mask mandate and Health Director Jim Rutherford and did again Tuesday night voting 6 to 3 to reject rescinding the health order.
