MDEQ Director Dan Wyant Resigns Over Flint Crisis, Snyder Apologizes

MPRN

(MPRN-Lansing) The head of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has resigned over the drinking water crisis in Flint.

Governor Rick Snyder has apologized to the community of Flint for his administration’s handling and involvement in the situation. He has accepted the resignation of MDEQ Director Dan Wyant.

A number of reports have found the department made mistakes which played a critical role in elevated lead levels in the city’s tap water. Snyder says he expects to make more personnel changes in the department as a result of initial findings from the task force he appointed to probe the situation.

And the governor says he’ll meet with Flint Mayor Karen Weaver to discuss additional ways the state can help resolve the situation.
