Kalamazoo Public Schools reopened Loy Norrix and Kalamazoo Central High Schools as well as Linden Grove Middle School Tuesday under heightened police presence and other security measures. Meanwhile threats have closed three Portage schools.

Although law enforcement believes online threats that caused those schools’ closures Monday are not credible, Kalamazoo schools officials say they are taking enhanced measures because new threats have been made online against those three schools. Hillside Middle School was also closed Monday. It is open Tuesday. KPS says additional threats were made Monday night against the high schools and Linden Grove. The district said bomb detecting dogs and metal detecting wands would be used Monday at those three buildings.

Meanwhile, Portage Public Schools closed three of its school buildings Tuesday that are located on its north campus due to a threat against Portage Northern High School. As a safety precaution, officials have announced they have closed not only that school, but the district’s Community High School and Northern Middle School.
