Opening May's Edition of Encore With Editor Marie Lee

Editor Marie Lee talks to Cara Lieurance about the stories written for the newest edition of Encore Magazine, which focuses on culture and community in west Michigan.

The May issue's cover story describes the growth of an under-the-radar business that has gone from 6 to 500 employees in nearly 5 decades. Lee credits reporter John Liberty with teasing out many strands in the story about Schupan & Sons from owner Marc Schupan, who preferred to credit others with the success of the business. Liberty also contributes an article on one of his own enthusiasms: adult wiffle ball leagues. Lee and Lieurance discuss Lee's profile on Megan Yankee, who took over the directorship of the Stulberg International String Competition just before the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
