A ballot proposal to change Michigan's redistricting process is headed to the November ballot. An appeals court decision says statements by accused Kalamazoo mass shooter Jason Dalton should not be admitted at trial. Entergy announces plans to sell the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant after its shut down.

(MPRN) An initiative to change how Michigan draws its political boundaries is headed for the November ballot. The Michigan Supreme Courtmade the ruling late Tuesday. The ballot proposal would create an independent redistricting commission to draw the state’s political lines. The commission would be made up of Democrats, Republicans and Independents. The opposition to the measure said it would essentially change the powers of the state government and was too extensive an overhaul for a ballot proposal. The Michigan Court of Appeals rejected that argument – and so did the highest court in the state. The court said the proposal does not significantly alter the structure of Michigan’s government. It was a close decision with four in favor and three against. Now voters will get to decide in November.

The Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled that statements made by accused Kalamazoo mass shooter Jason Dalton should not be admitted at trial. Dalton faces six counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and other charges in connection with the 2016 shooting spree. In a statement the office of Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting says they are reviewing the opinion before deciding whether to appeal.

(Battle Creek Enquirer) Battle Creek City Commissioners have picked an attorney to fill a vacancy on their board. The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that James Lance was selected Tuesday night after presentations from nine applicants. Vice Mayor Dave Walters resigned from the commission in mid-July. He was elected in November to a three year term representing Battle Creek’s Ward 5.

Entergy Corporation says it plans to sell the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Covert after its shutdown to allow for accelerated decommissioning. In a news release, Entergy says it will sell the subsidiaries that own Palisades and the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts to Holtec International Subsidiary. Entergy says the sale of Palisades is expected close to its planned shutdown in 2022.

In baseball, Battle Creek lost to Lakeshore 6-5 Tuesday night. The Bombers host Wisconsin for a double header. The first game is at noon and the second at 7:00 Wednesday night at C.O. Brown Stadium.
