Western Brass Quintet presents new music, new tubist

Western Brass Quintet

The Western Brass Quintet premieres two new works Wednesday night, including Brass Quintet by composer Pierre Jalbert.

Mr Jalbert, horn player Lin Foulk, and the newest member, tubist Jacob Cameron, discuss the process of preparing a brand new piece of music, and talk about the other works on the program by Michael Tilson Thomas, Joseph Turrin, and Claudio Monteverdi.  Jacob Cameron, who was hired after a national search, describes his Michigan upbringing and love of brass chamber music. Pierre Jalbert also outlines the starting place for many of his compositions.

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
