WSW: Ancient Brews Reborn (Rebroadcast)

W.W. Norton

How far back does beer go in human history? University of Pennsylvania Museum Archaeologist Patrick McGovern says it showed up quite early.

McGovern is the author of Ancient Rediscovered and Recreated. Andy Robins interviewed McGovern in April just before he spoke at Western Michigan University.

McGovern studies the history of fermented alcoholic beverages, and has helped create several of them. He says ancient people considered those drinks to be medicine and an important part of religion.

Andy Robins has been WMUK's News Director since 1998 and a broadcast journalist for over 24 years. He joined WMUK's staff in 1985. Under his direction, WMUK has received numerous awards for news reporting.
Gordon Evans became WMUK's Content Director in 2019 after more than 20 years as an anchor, host and reporter. A 1990 graduate of Michigan State, he began work at WMUK in 1996.
