WSW: "Sometimes People Just Need To Be Heard"

WMUK

Gryphon Place runs a 24 hour crisis hotline. But the group’s assistant director says there are many ways to define a crisis.

Lacee Lyons say the 381-HELP number is available for people if they just need to talk about their emotional reaction to the February 20th shooting spree in Kalamazoo. Lyons says

“sometimes people just need to heard, sometimes people just need to say it out loud.”

Lyons says the crisis hotline is staffed 24 hours by trained counselors.

The 2-1-1 line is available to direct people to services in the area. Lyons says

“sometimes people call, they don’t know what they need, they just know they need help.”

After an event like the shooting spree in February, Lyons says it’s normal for people to feel fear, anger or sadness. She says people should know that it’s OK for people to feel that way. Lyons says it can also be helpful to see if others need help.
