Small businesses in the City of Kalamazoo can get help paying costs related to COVID-19.

Anne Harrigan, music director of the Battle Creek Symphony, joins Cara Lieurance to preview a concert that's getting its final touches in the film editing studio: A Dickens Christmas, which will be released as a free online concert at 7:30 pm on Saturday, Dec 12. Anyone can access the program by registering at the Battle Creek Symphony website.

Joel Mabus, the versatile, multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter, is playing from his home office during the COVID-19 pandemic. His YouTube channel offers a series of short videos that trace the weeks of the pandemic with songs he thought "might help a little." 


City of Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo City commissioners are hoping to reduce gun violence in the city. So far, 14 people have died because of shootings in the city in 2020.

At 2 pm on Sunday, Dec 6, the Gilmore Keyboard Festival will release the next online concert in its Piano Masters series. Yefim Bronfman, an Israeli-American pianist born in Uzbekistan, will perform music of Beethoven and Debussy. Cara Lieurance spoke with Pierre Van Der Westhuizen, the executive director of The Gilmore, for a preview of Bronfman's special gifts as a pianist.
