"OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI – The Oshtemo Township Board of Trustees largely put the issue of starting its own police department to bed during a more than three-hour meeting Tuesday, with members electing instead to resume negotiations with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's office to continue to provide the township's law enforcement needs." OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI – Fewer sheriff's deputies could be patrolling Kalamazoo County roads if Oshtemo Township follows a consultant's advice to form its own police force. At a time when state revenue sharing cuts and rising costs have lowered the county's road patrol force of 42 deputies to roughly the same as 1968 levels, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller says he is eager to reach a new contract agreement with Oshtemo to ensure the seven officers currently assigned to that township aren't lost.
