The new season of Fontana will be virtual, says executive director David Baldwin. Each hand-picked group will record a live-to-tape performance in the city in which they're based. Baldwin and Cara Lieurance preview each group, from VOCES8, and Brooklyn Rider, to the Castalian and Dudok String Quartets, with some musical selections and biographical details.

Chris Hartlove

The celebrated American pianist, conductor and teacher Leon Fleisher died Aug 2 at the age of 92. Cara Lieurance asked Pierre Van Der Westhuizen, the executive director of the Gilmore Keyboard Festival, to share his thoughts on one of the century's greatest musicians in the world of classical music. Fleisher performed at the Festival several times, notably premiering the Piano Concerto For the Left-Hand by Michigan composer C. Curtis-Smith.

Kalamazoo Symphony

The new season of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra was announced this week. Music director Raymond Harvey chose a personal favorite, Rachmaninoff's second symphony, to start his fifteenth year as maestro of the KSO.

He shares his admiration for the season's guest artists, violinist Midori and pianist Leon Fleisher, and looks forward to helming a semi-staged production of Verdi's opera Otello
