MI Attorney General Goes After Dishonest Charitable Clothing Bins

AP Images/Summer Moore

Texas clothing bin operator ATRS agreed to pay a fine of $75,000 for misleading labels on its clothing donation bins benefiting the Michigan Humane Society.

A press release from the Michigan Attorney General’s office said that the company had claimed  100 percent of donations go to the charity, when ATRS only pays out $.02 per pound to the Humane Society.

Michigan-based company Golden Recyclers was accused of similar deception last year with its clothing donation bins. Attorney General Bill Schuette has settled lawsuit with both Golden Recyclers and ATRS. Golden Recylers paid out $35,000.
