Michigan's Emergency Manager Law and the safety of pipelines in Michigan are the subjects on WestSouthwest.

Bridge Magazine, the online news service of the Center for Michigan, examined Michigan's Emergency Manager Law. Urban Affairs reporter Chastity Pratt-Dawsey looked at how Michigan deals with local units of government in financial crisis. She compares that approach to other states.

A group of environmental groups is calling for a federal study of pipelines crossing water in Michigan. Jennifer McKay, Policy Specialist with the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council based in Petoskey, says the 2010 oil spill on the Kalamazoo River focused more attention on pipeline safety.
