On WestSouthwest, we discuss the impact of trade on the loss of manufacturing jobs with Upjohn Institute Economist Susan Houseman. And the co-investigator for Western Michigan University's Autism Center For Excellence Stephanie Peterson tells us about what they offer students and others, and the challenges remaining.

Manufacturing has historically lost jobs during an economic slow down, but after the recession of the 2000's those jobs didn't come back. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research Vice President and Director of Research Susan Houseman recently issued a report on the decline in the manufacturing jobs in the United States. She says trade "played a big role" in the loss of manufacturing jobs.

The chairwoman of Western Michigan University's Psychology Department Stephanie Peterson is also co-investigator of Western's Autism Center for Excellence. Peterson discusses the services offered for students on campus and the Kalamazoo Autism Center. A presentation on autism will be part of Western Michigan University's Spring Convocation on February 23rd.
