This Saturday, The Battle Creek Symphony will present a concert version of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story in the composer's 100th anniversary year, at 7:30 pm in W.K. Kellogg Auditorium. The professional cast includes Jessica Soza, who, in a 2014 international touring production, played Maria over 150 times. Soza tells Cara Lieurance about her experiences on tour, and how she sees the character as a person who sheds her childhood during the events of the story. A child of immigrant parents herself, Soza says the story is more about love than tragedy.
