Getting Ready for the Big Game

Mike Lanka

Tens of thousands of people will converge on Western Michigan University's campus Friday as the Broncos open their football season against Michigan State. The university will close most offices at 2:30 p.m. to help reduce traffic and parking problems. University police and Kalamazoo Public Safety officers will also have a major presence around campus to monitor safety and help ease traffic congestion.

The university has set up a special website with information about tailgate and parking locations. Information about seating at Waldo Stadium - and items that cannot be brought into the stands - is available here. The same site also has information about shuttle bus service from downtown Kalamazoo, and about special handicap parking in Lot 4 near Oakland Drive. There will also be free shuttles available to and from the stadium and tailgate areas for three hours before the game starts.

Kick-off for the nationally-televised game will be at 7 p.m. Tickets for the game are sold out.

Parking in designated lots will cost $10 per vehicle. There will be a special lot reserved for WMU students attending the game. Parking and tailgate areas open at 3 p.m.
