Commissioners, Mayor Receive Slight Raise

Sehvilla Mann

Kalamazoo’s six city commissioners and Mayor Bobby Hopewell have received a 1.03 percent increase in their yearly salaries. The raise, which takes effect later this month, is intended to serve as a cost-of-living adjustment.

At the new rate, Mayor Bobby Hopewell will earn $9,790 per year. Vice Mayor Don Cooney will earn $8,244 and the other commissioners will earn $7,214 annually. The increase is automatic unless two-thirds of the commissioners vote to reject it. Members did not challenge the raise at their meeting Monday night.
