Twenty seven suspected undocumented immigrants were arrested last week in west Michigan. That's according to a press release from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE.
Officials at ICE say 80 percent of those arrested have criminal records. That includes anything from assaulting a police officer to not stopping at the scene of a car accident. ICE officials have not yet said how many were convicted of minor crimes.
Those in custody come from five countries— Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. ICE officials say the immigrants will be processed for deportation. Five people could face felony charges for re-entering the United States after already being deported.
