Western’s Office of Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender Student Services is kicking off the semester with its annual Fall Fab Fest on Saturday.

LBGT Student Services Director Nathan Nguyen says the goal is “getting LGBT students connected to the resources, as well as showing that they have a community here and getting connected to each other, finding friends, study buddies, whatever they are looking for.”

Nguyen says Fab Fest also helps students connect with the wider community.

“This is a way to show that there are resources that LGBT students and LGBT-friendly students and community members in general know that they can find something, either in the community or on campus, and that it’s not just WMU that’s inclusive but the city of Kalamazoo and the County of Kalamazoo is also inclusive to LGBT identities all around,” he said.

LBGT Student Services is also marking its 30th anniversary this year. Nguyen says it’s the second oldest LGBTQ university resource center in Michigan, and the sixth-oldest in the nation.

Fab Fest runs from 4 to 7 in the evening on Saturday and will include entertainment by local drag performers.
