If You Trick-Or-Treat, Do It Carefully, Local Officials Say

Robert F. Bukaty

Kalamazoo County and the City of Kalamazoo aren’t telling kids to skip trick-or-treating this year. But they are urging residents to follow guidelines from the stateand the Centers for Disease Control on how to avoid spreading COVID-19.

“We strongly recommend that everybody is to wear masks, number one, and number two, try to avoid groups,” Kalamazoo Deputy City Manager Jeff Chamberlain told WMUK. “A lot of the recommendations are related to staying with the family unit.”

The guidelines also advise that kids wash their hands before unwrapping candy.

COVID-19 cases have surged in Kalamazoo County this month. “We’re not out of the woods,” County Health Officer Jim Rutherford said. “It’s still extremely transmissible. So, we just need to be aware of that and continue to be diligent.”
