(WKAR) A group of senior Republican legislators from Michigan was summoned to the White House Friday. But, after meeting with the President, the lawmakers say they will follow the law and normal process of selecting Michigan’s electors.
After the meeting Republicans Mike Shirkey and Lee Chatfield released a statementsaying they haven’t yet received any information that would change the result: President-elect Joe Biden won the state of Michigan by more than 150,000 votes.
Many criticized the meeting as an attempt by the president to influence the legislative leaders to appoint electors loyal to him. Both legislative leaders said they would follow the law and that the certification process, which happens Monday, should be free from threats and intimidation.
The statement also noted, quote, "candidates who win the most votes win elections and Michigan’s electoral votes."
