State Legislature's Leaders Make Plans For 2018

(MPRN-Lansing) Lansing’s lawmakers won’t return to the Capitol until next week. But they’ve already got big plans for 2018.

Before the state Legislature broke for the holidays, they tackled chemicals discovered in groundwater across the state. Lawmakers passed a measure to dedicate money toward testing and cleanup of the chemical.

After the vote, Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof said he wants to return to the issue in 20-18.

“It’s been cooking for a little while, it’s not just been today.”

Speaker of the House Tom Leonard says he wants to focus on a mental health overhaul. A task force has been meeting on the issue. Leonard says they’ll be ready to introduce bills early this year.
