(MPRN-Lansing) Republicans in Lansing say they want to make quick work of fixing a glitch in the new federal tax law. The issue is making sure Michiganders don’t pay more on their state income taxes. But there’s plenty of interest in going further.
The federal tax overhaul has created an issue with the personal exemption that could cost Michigan taxpayers more than $1-billion in total. Republican Arlan Meekhof is the state Senate Majority Leader. He says Republicans and Democrats are in agreement something needs to be done.
“I would think it would be hard to vote against that.”
But Governor Rick Snyder’s administration is cautioning that plans that go too far will play havoc with the state budget in future years. That is unless the Legislature also comes up with plans to cut spending or find alternative sources of revenue.
