Movement On Tax Bills In House And Senate

Cheyna Roth

(MPRN-Lansing) The state Legislature continues to move along plans to change the state’s tax code. The new federal tax law zeroes out the personal exemption.

The state Senate passed a bill Wednesday. It would essentially reinstate the exemption, plus give tax payers a little more money.

The House is also working on its own plan. It includes a tax cut for seniors. That bill got its first committee hearing Wednesday.

But the governor continues to caution lawmakers against going too far with tax breaks. He says he’s concerned about the impact on the state budget if they cut taxes too much.
