WMUK

The company that makes Rubbermaid kitchen utensils and Sharpie marker pens is coming to Kalamazoo. Newell-Rubbermaid says its new design and test center at Western Michigan University’s Business Technology Research Parkwill employ 100 people.

Governor Rick Snyder says those jobs will have an average salary of $80,000 a year. The new facility is expected to be up and running my early 2014 with help from grants by the Michigan Strategic Fund and Southwest Michigan First. Snyder says the project shows that Michigan is able to attract "leading edge" companies. He says the Newell-Rubbermaid employees will help turn concepts into new products.
