Portage city officials say 17 people have applied to become the next acting city manager. The acting manager would fill the position until Portage finds a permanent manager, hopefully this fall according to Mayor Pro Tem Jim Pearson.

Pearson says council members tentatively plan to discuss the applications for acting manager at a special meeting April 21st. He adds that the council hopes to vote on a candidate in May and have that person start no later than June.
