Saturday at 1 pm on WMUK-1, listeners will hear the Kalamazoo-born contralto Meredith Arwady singing at the Metropolitan Opera in Richard Wagner’s Das Rheingold.

It's the opening opera in the series of four masterworks known as "The Ring Cycle." Cara Lieurance talked to her about the role, and began by asking Ms. Arwady how she has met the challenges of the somewhat infamous moving set called “The Machine,” an array of vertical slabs which tilt forward to suggest landscapes.
