Jon Boyd

Let's Hear It host Cara Lieurance and Jon Boyd, a senior majoring in music at Western Michigan University, discuss the life of Florence Price, whose groundbreaking career included the 1933 premiere by the Chicago Symphony of her award-winning Symphony No. 1 in E minor.

Tuesdays in February on Let's Hear It, Cara Lieurance and Jon Boyd illuminate the music of classical composers of color. A violist with a lively interest in sharing the rich history of music performed and written by individuals of mixed or non-European ancestries, Jon discusses composers such as Joseph Bolougne, Chevalier de Saint-George, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Florence Price, and George Walker. Each program will also feature a concert highlight of the Sphinx Virtuosi, a touring ensemble of award-winning Black and Latino musicians.
