Jon Boyd

Let's Hear It host Cara Lieurance and Jon Boyd, a senior majoring in music at Western Michigan University, discuss the life and music of George Walker, the first African-American to win the Pulitzer prize in music, and the composer of over 90 published works.

Tuesdays in February on Let's Hear It, Cara Lieurance and Jon Boyd illuminate the music of classical composers of color. A violist with a lively interest in sharing the rich history of music performed and written by individuals of mixed or non-European ancestries, Jon discusses composers such as Joseph Bolougne, Chevalier de Saint-George, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Florence Price, and George Walker. Each program also features a concert highlight of the Sphinx Virtuosi, a touring ensemble of award-winning Black and Latino musicians.
