On the verge of becoming as widely known in the U.S. as he is in France, Bertrand Chamayou will perform classics of Ravel and Schubert for the Fontana series on Saturday. He spoke with Cara Lieurance about how he had an instinctual feel for one, and learned, through study, to love the other.

Chamayou also discusses how he nurtures his own growth as an artist. He sometimes plays for respected older peers, and invests in new commissions from modern composers. He hopes that, in ten years, he will be doing something he can't imagine today.

Chamayou performs in the Wellspring Theatre in the Epic Center on Saturday, October 1 at 7:30 pm. Further details are on the Fontana website.
