(MPRN-Lansing) Michigan drivers could show electronic proof of insurance during traffic stops under a bill on its way to Gov. Rick Snyder’s desk.
The state Senate gave the bill final approval on a unanimous vote Wednesday morning. Republican state Senator Joe Hune (R-Whitmore Lake) chairs the Senate Insurance Committee.
“So when you get pulled over you can bring it up on your phone and say, ‘Hey, this is my auto insurance right here,’ instead of having that piece of paper that often gets lost in the glovebox,”
said Hune. He says the change is long overdue.
“We should have done it 10, 15 years ago, probably.”
Drivers who fail to show proof of insurance during traffic stops typically face court-imposed fines.
