(MPRN-Undated) It’s been a year since Governor Rick Snyder called for a “pause” in re-settling refugees from the Middle East in Michigan. Before that, Snyder described himself as the nation’s most pro-immigration governor.
Now, the governor says he’s not prepared to say what he’d like to see from the incoming Trump administration when it comes to immigration policy.
“I’m not going to speculate on things until we get more information in terms of what the president-elect plans on doing,”
the governor said in a phone call while on a trade mission in China.
“I think the best thing to do is let’s take an approach of giving him an opportunity to establish his cabinet, and establish policies and then we can make decisions accordingly,”
The governor says that includes what do if Trump follows through on a promise to cut funding to sanctuary cities. At two least two Michigan cities – Detroit and Ann Arbor –have policies to harbor immigrants regardless of their visa status.
