(MPRN-Lansing) When the state Legislature returns its holiday break, it’ll have a list of things to try and get done before the end of the year. One item could be controversial gun bills.
Governor Rick Snyder has vetoed similar bills to expand the state’s concealed carry law. But that didn’t stop the Senate from quickly passing the bills before break. The bills would, in part, let people carry a concealed weapon in places like schools and hospitals.
David Crim is with the Michigan Education Association. He says these bills would not keep students safe.
“We don’t feel the answer to gun violence is more guns in schools. In fact we feel that that’s a recipe for disaster.”
Organizations that favor the legislation say criminals don’t follow rules. So, the areas where firearms aren’t allow are easy targets for shootings.
